HSCI Newsletter Cover Girls - Cleo & Amiee

Last month I (Cleo) and Amiee had a vet appointment and HDM had to go to HSCI to make a memorial donation.  So before we went to the vet HDM decided to stop at HSCI for us to visit all our friends there.  We had so much fun running in their big open front lobby.  Then a nice lady came out that had kept Amiee as a puppy and loved on us a bunch. :)  We then had to pose for some pictures for them and next thing you know they asked HDM if they could do a small story about us for their newsletter.  HDM was very accommodating and gave them lots of stories and told them to check out the blog if they really want the truth about us. :)  Loving, Sweet, Adorable Bassets. :)

Well the next thing you know we were contacted by HDM's BFF that we were on the cover this month.  How sweet is that.  Here is a copy of the cover page that HDM scanned in on the computer.

Is this not sweet or what?

Sorry the next couple are little fuzzy because HDM was taking a picture of the article.  We just were so excited and wanted to share our news.  And they even mention our website so we are doing some serious talking to HDM to make sure she is updating our activites on a regular basis.  She has been a little laxing in this area lately, she seems to help us blog our activites but then fails to post them because.  She says that blogger sometimes gives her fits with pictures and stresses her.  Urgh......

Thanks, HSCI for making us cover girls.

Amiee has a Seal Neck

Amiee here,

This is my silly picture for the day.  HDM thinks that I am part seal because the way I can bend my neck back.  Sorry the picture is a little blurry but I was standing on my back legs doing my neck stretching exercise.  I will try to hold still the next time so we can get a better picture.

Tabitha (Tabby) - Gotcha Day

HAPPY GOTCHA DAY, TABBY!

Tabitha (Tabby) joined our family on March 19, 1999. It is so hard to believe that Tabby has been in our family for 11 years. We found her listed in our local newspaper as “FREE – 10 month old bloodhound”. HDD had really wanted a bloodhound after our friends had one. The only problem was that we were at least 30 miles away from home that day and then Tabby was located another 20-25 miles south of our hometown. When we called they said they had 2-3 people coming to look at her and one was a rescue. It was a first come first serve basis on her. Whoever got there first could have her, pretty sad that they didn’t put anymore thought into finding her a good home than that. We immediately left Flannigan, where we were at, and headed back to Bloomington. Once we got to Bloomington, we called again and they said she was still there, so we headed South in hopes we would get there in time. Once we got to McLean, IL we called again, she was still there so we got directions to their house. We arrived at a big old farmhouse, definitely the perfect place for Tabby, they had male hunting dogs and he refused to have them fixed and the Mom refused to get Tabby spayed. So Tabby had to go, sad. The lady yelled for Tabby and next thing you know around the corner this “HUGE” red, floppy ear, long legged overgrown “basset??” comes. Nope it was a full blooded red-bone bloodhound. She comes a running and the first thing she does it pounce us like she has known us forever and then jumps in the truck. We knew right and then she was going home with us. We were Tabby’s 5th home in her short 10 months, but she has not left our side for one minute for the last 11 years. She has seen two of her best friends bassets – Precious and Elliott cross to the Rainbow Bridge. She has lived through the attitude of Miss Cleo, the ankle biting Winston, and then the in your face Amiee.

We did find that when we brought Tabby home she would not come back into the house for us. We then found that she had what is called “Threshold Shyness”. The vet thought that she was probably punished if she went somewhere she wasn’t suppose to she had no idea she could come and go as she pleased. It took 24 hours for her to back into the house from the backyard, another 24 hours for her to come from the kitchen to the living room. When I came home on Monday she had found her way to the queen size bed and has never looked back. She is very protective of her yard and house, but is the sweetest love bug when outside of her comfort zone. She loves to go for walks and sit on the picnic table in the sun.

Tabby our lives would not be complete without our “OVERGROWN – BASSET”. We love you so much and treasure everyday that we have had with you and look so forward to many more years with you.

Love your

Trying out Picasa

We thought we would see what we could do with some pictures of ours through Picasa. We were able to crop and auto contrast these all by ourselves. HDM was right though, we can run circles around this computer while it tried to complete all this. Our goal is not eat any more remote controls, shoes, hats, etc, etc, etc.....This way maybe we can help save some money to get us a new computer that has just a little (okay a lot) more memory in it. We think our true colors are more exposed in these pictures. Oh, we also uploaded through Picasa, which took forever and a day on this computer. What do you think?

Waddle Time

Hello Everyone,
ILLINOIS BASSET WADDLE - SEPT 19-20, 2009 - Dwight, IL
Guardian Angel Basset Rescue (GABR)
I hijacked the computer today because HoundDogMom, the secretary, has been on vacation for a few weeks. She has returned in time to take us to the Basset Waddle. We leave tomorrow morning and will be playing at the Bash on Saturday and Sunday will be the big parade that the Bassets will waddle in. This is a great weekend for us to play with hundreds of bassets and raise money for all the ones that need fur-ever homes. HoundDogMom says she got a new camera for her B-Day, so we hope to capture some great pictures of the weekend. Well got to catch up on my sleep, the waddle will wear you out. Look for updates and pictures the first of next week. Cleo, Winston and Amiee

Muddy Amiee

Good Evening,
Amiee here.....Running a little late on blogging today, out playing in the rain and mud. Also, we had to skip blogging this weekend. HounddogMom was way to busy to assist. She was attending a fundraiser for basset rescue then helped with the dog wash for the local shelter.
It is sure a good thing she had lots of practice yesterday because I presented a challenge for her tonight. See we have lots of rain in Illinois and I love rain and mud. See being a basset hound and all I am very low to the ground and that mud just goes right to my belly. Mom didn't think to get any pictures of my belly prior to tossing me in the tub. I am beginning to like these things called "baths". Mom says she is definately getting a swimming pool for us this summer. That shoud be fun because I think I can create my own mud then.
Here are a few pictures of my bath after my mud adventure.
This is me thinking I was done with my bath. Mom said not quite yet.
This is me standing in my very muddy bath water. See how I got the nickname "Mud Puppy".
Bath tub ring?
Nice clean puppy and a clean bath tub.Can I "Please" get out Mom?This is me drying off on the couch. See nice clean belly. Here is short video clip of me drying off on the couch. Mom needs to remember to turn the TV down when she wants to video me. You must pardon the background noise.
Thanks for checking in,
Amiee

Butter Dog

Winston here..... Well mom was doing a little cooking the other night and I thought I would help. See I love to counter surf for anything. I also love "BUTTER". She seems to do a little better with me just doing crazy things like this instead of eating the cell phones. She gets very upset with me when I eat the antenna's off the phones. Seems she can't here anyone without it. Here is small clip of me helping myself to the "BUTTER". Yum Yum...

Rainy Monday

Good Morning, Amiee here.......
Well I just wanted to let you all know that we won't be getting to spend to much time outside today. We have lots of rain and mud in my back yard so Mom says I have been banned to the house for the day. I did get to sneak out this morning and sit in a mud puddle and enjoy the rain drops falling on my head. But I was quickly called back inside for a nice drying off. Mom just doesn't know how to have fun in the rain.
