GABR Transport (Isabella, Gabe and Felix)

This past Saturday I had the opportunity to help GABR with another transport. This was actually the first time I have had bassets in the BUV on both ways of the trip. That sure makes a lot more fun then riding all by yourself.

A few months ago one of the Foster Parents for GABR was attacked by 2 big dogs in Indiana. He had just got done walking the neighbor girl home from visiting his bassets. The dogs came charging at him and he suffered over 70+ bite wounds and his one ear was pretty mangled but he is one tough cookie. He was able to finally get the dogs off him and get to his house where he could call for help. The dogs were PTS immediately and the owners could not prove any of their rabies shots so he must endure that know. He spent several days in the hospital then several weeks recuping with his family. During all this all his foster dogs and his own bassets had to be farmed out for some extra loving care while he recovered. Well he finally recovered and got we have been in the process of reuinting him with all his fur-babies.

Isabella was the last one of his fur-babies to make it back home and I was so honored to be part of her journey back to her Daddy. Isabella is a very special girl as she is one of the GABR Parvo puppies from about 5 years ago. Isabella was not even expected to walk let alone live through her experience. Marshall and his wife did such an awesome job with Isabella and she is one strong girl that walks like there is no tomorrow.

Well since Isabella was headed to Dwight for her transport back to Daddy, they decided to go ahead and move Gabe to his foster home as well. So Gabe and Isabella rode in the BUV to Dwight when they were turned over to another transporter for the rest of the trip. Gabe was going to his foster family and Isabella to her Daddy.

And this is Gabe.  Gabe is new to GABR and was just making his way to his Foster home.  He was about 5-6 years old and one of the sweetest soles.  He loved to be talked to and to have tons of belly rubs.  I also found out that he likes to stick his head out the window when he rides.  This is not safe practice so we immediately rolled that window up.

Then on our trip back to Bloomington we brought Felix.  Felix was making her way to St. Louis to be fostered by a wonderful lady from GABR.  Felix has already have a potential adopter that is interested in her.  She was the most gorgous basset and had a great figure.  She had some meat on her bones.

GABR Past Transports (Droopy, Erin, Jack/Joe and Delilah)

Here are some pictures of some of the past transports I did while Cleo was sick.  Just never got around to posting them, but I like to keep a log of who I transport.  As my work donates $500 to the charity of my choice when I donate 40 volunteer hours in a calendar year.

So in July I transported Droopy into rescue.  He was one of the 15 bassets that were adopted at the waddle this year.

Here is Erin, she was sweetie and had been waiting to get to a foster home for GABR.  I transported her to her foster mom.  She was also one of the 15 b bassets that was adopted at the waddle this year.

Monday (9/26/01) afternoon I got a call from GABR that there were two basset brothers in the Logan County Animal control and their time was up if we did not get them pulled by 4:00pm Monday.  I immediately left work at 2:30 to make the 40 minute drive to get them, so we could get them the Dwight Clinic by 5:00pm so they could be checked out by Dr. Lou.  These basset brothers will be 2 years old on November 9, 2011 AKC Registered (papers included) have been outside dogs living with a horrible breeder in Southern, IL.  Actually GABR picked up 2 puppies several months ago from this same situation and did not know about these two boys hiding in the yard.

For being outside dogs for the entire life, you would have never known it.  They climed in the back of the BUV picked up the toys I had for them and laid down and were perfect angels for their road trip.  They had the longest ears, short noses, big ol feet and a whole lot of LOVE to give.  I just wish they smelled a little better so I could have rally loved on them.  Since they had been in the "Pound" for almost 2 weeks and being outside dogs, they had a very distinguished smell to them.  You would think the "Pound" would consider giving them a bath to make them a little more presentable to potential adopters.

This was actually the first transport I have done since Cleo went to the Bridge.  I felt she was sending me a sign that we had to save them and do it quick.  But boy that Winston was not a happy camper when I returned home.  He did not like the fact that I brought back smells from some other smelly hound and not from his Cleo.

The most recent transport was for a basset/mix that had been sitting in a shelter in Missouri for the last 4 months.  GABR had a new lady that was going to begin to foster for them.  She pretty much wanted to foster with the strong potential to adopt.  She wanted a middle age or older basset/mix, didn't have even look like a basset.  Didn't care if she had any issues, just wanted to bring a new addition to her family.  I have no doubt that they were meant for each other.  This is Delilah, which I am sure found her forever on this day.

This would be Delilah's new ride.  As her Mom said it was the Big "Green" Monster.  A 1975 Buick LeSabre.  Delilah jumped right in and sat in the drivers seat as in where do you want me to take you Mom.

GABR Transport - Sydney (7/23/2011)

HDD and I got the honor of assisting this past Saturday, June 23 on transporting Sydney to her fur-ever home.

Sydney was being fostered near Chicago, Illinois so she had to begin her journey very early in the morning.  GABR Transporter Cheryl started on the road at 6:30am with Sydney to bring her to Bloomington, IL to HDD and I (2 hours).  We were the second leg of her transport to her fur-ever home with us traveling 2 hours south to Effingham, Illinois where we met up with GABR Transporter Jan who was then going to drive Sydney to Mt. Vernon, Illinois where she would meet up with her fur-ever family then make her last journey to her fur-ever home in Harrisburg, Illinois.  Sydney was a very special girl and we would have never known she was even in the BUV with us during her transport.  She was so happy to meet everyone and didn't seem to know a strange face.  If there was one I could have kept, it could have been her but I knew she had a great new life ahead of her.  See Sydney is absolutely terrified of thunderstorms and loud noises.  But she has the perfect family as her Dad will be home all day with her and while he works at night she will have the company of her Grandma.  Sydney will never be left home alone again, to suffer through any storms by herself.

GABR Transport - General (7/15/2011)

With everything going on with Cleo I have totally spaced on posting on the latest transports that I have been assisting with.  On Friday, July 15, 2011 I had the privlage of transporting General into GABR. 

General

General had a very rough life and is only 2 years old.  And has been nicknamed "General Hoppy" by his foster parents.  See General only walks on 3-1/2 legs.  He has 3 perfectly good legs, but can only use his 4th leg (right front) for balance while sitting or while doing stairs.  The vets feel that General had been hit by a car sometime ago, and his leg was broke but was never fixed properly, but fixing it at this point in my life will cause me a great deal of pain.  My bad leg does not cause me to in any pain and sure doesn't stop me from doing anything a young basset does.

General also was heartworm positive when he came to GABR, but was very lucky that it was just a mild case and he only had to endure 2 heartworm treatments.  Which he came through with flying colors.  He only has a few days left of crate rest and then he will be available to find his fur-ever home.

GABR Transport - Wills and Kate (6/24/2011)

Things have been so busy here in the Hound household at least for Mom anyway.  She is working on getting caught up on some much needed posts and hopefully getting around to visiting some blogs this weekend. 

Her latest journey took her on a transport with Wills and Kate a brother/sister pair that were two years old.  Wills was very skinny and had lots of various worms, but not Heartworm, thankgoodness.  This journey also brought us to the picture that we posted this past Wednesday for "Wordless Wednesday".

Here we are at the Dwight Vet Clinic in Dwight.  This was a drop off point for them until their foster mom could get them picked up.

They were definately a bonded brother/sister pair.  Wills would lay in the back and clean Kate's face.  So sweet and loving.

In dropping off Wills and Kate I noticed something new to the Dwight Veterinary Clinic wall.  A painted basset hound statue.  Know I have been up to the Clinic several times over the last few months and have never noticed it before, so I assume it is a pretty new addition.  I don't have much detail about it, but assume it must be something that was done for the Illinois Basset Waddle last year.  I will be asking some questions to find out how you can acquire one of these lovely statues.

GABR Transport - Ridgeley (6/3/2011)

On Friday, June 3rd I have the honor or doing yet another transport for GABR.  Here is Ridgely a three year old male basset, he has since been adopted into his fur-ever home.
