GABR Transports

As everyone is aware I do transporting for GABR and Friday (April 13th) I was called to move two bassets to the vet clinic in Dwight, IL.  As you also are aware I was a huge fan of Fred over at Hound Girl.  So when Fred when to the Rainbow Bridge very unexpected a few weeks ago, I contacted Kari to see about making a donation to an organization of Kari's liking in honor of Fred.  Well, if everyone knows Kari over at Hound Girl she has the biggest heart.  The only thing that she really wanted me to do was take the money I wanted to donate and put in my gas tank for when we do another transport.  Well, when I was called to transport two bassets I decided that this transport would be to Honor Fred's Memory.  I have to say this transport could not have been more fitting for me to Honor Fred's Memory.  So without further ado here are the two bassets that were transported with Fred's picture and spirit riding shotgun.

Fred's Spirit

Our first stop was to our local Animal Control to pick up a sweet 7 year old female that was found as a stray in my own home town.  Here name was Bailey at the shelter but GABR has renamed her to Agnus, which I am not to terribly fond of just because I just don't like that name and it did not fit this seven year old basset that had so much spirit and spunk like a puppy.

Agnus

This girl was beautiful and oh so sweet and if Miss Bella had not joined our house a few months ago, this girl would not have gotten far out of Bloomington, Il for sure.  She had my husband wrapped around her paws in like 2 seconds.

Just look at those striking colors on her.  Just beautiful.  Here she is sticking her tongue out at the wild child next to her.

Once we got Agnus we then headed off to our next meeting place where we had a one year old male that was coming into rescue as well.  We have to say we could not have picked a better day and transport to do in Honor of Fred.  As this little guy was named "Fred" before rescue took him in.  I couldn't believe it when I was looking at his folder and the name was Fred/(Franklin).  The second name in is usually the name that GABR has picked out for them to begin their new life with.  This guy was a handful and was so full of LOVE and LIFE, if you know what I mean (lipstick and all). He could use a few cheeseburgers as he was under weight.

Franklin

Franklin attempting to let Agnus know that he really did love her.  As you can tell Agnus was not really fond of his Loving ways.

Franklin was very vocal and felt the need to tell us about his entire year of his life on our short/LONG hour trip.

Within 20 minutes we realized that Franklin just wasn't going to settle down and was going to need some attention.  This is when I am so thankful that the husband came along this time and was driving.  I crawled into the back of the BUV to try to calm our wild love child down.  It didn't take long for Agnus to take the cue and move to the co-pilot seat.

Oh, Yea this is the place to ride

Oh, let me give you a few more pictures of Franklin while we rode in the back of the BUV.

Arriving in Dwight

You have nothing but the best life ahead of you, Agnus.

We love you Franklin :) We are sure you will find your fur-ever home soon.

Hound Girl (Kari) we hope that you enjoy our post today and we hope that we Honored Fred's Memory in a very good way.  We sure enjoyed having his spirit ride along with us.  Fred will always have a very special place in our hearts.

Thanks Kari, for suggesting we take the money and put it in our gas tank to help some homeless bassets.  We appreciate it and you have a "huge" heart.  We hope this post will fill a little spot of the whole that was left in your heart when Fred made his journey to the Rainbow Bridge.

Friday the 13th (April) was a good day.

GABR Christmas Transport - Droopy (12-21-2010)

Through all the holiday happenings, we got the call to see if HDM would be willing to transport a basset to her fur-ever family for Christmas.  Well who the heck could pass up an opportunity like this.   Through my transports I have never done one where I am handing the basset over to their fur-ever family.  And to be able to bring this joy to someone for the Christmas Holiday was a true miracle for me.

May I introduce you to Droopy

Droopy is a 6 year old female that had never even met her fur-ever family before this day.  They finally had decided they were ready for another fur-kid after losing their basset/lab mix a year ago.  They located Droopy on the GABR website and fell in love with her.  They had already had one transport arranged, but the weather forced that one to be called off.  So everyone with GABR was doing everything they could to make sure she would get to them for Christmas.  But we were expecting another storm to come through on the new date that was made (December 21).  We all said our prayers that this could happen and everything worked out.
Droopy began her journey to her new fur-ever home around 8:00am Tuesday, December 21st.  Her Foster Mom (Cara) brought her to the first drop off point in Rockford to (Joe), who drove her 2 hours to Bloomington to meet me.  I was the last transport for her to Decatur, IL to meet her new family.  They were driving almost 4 hours from the South to meet me.
A pee stop before we started our trip to Decatur.  HDD has to meet all the transports that he is not a part of.
I know I am going somewhere very special today!

Please do not make meet my fur-ever family in this crazy Santa Hat

Okay that is better, I am ready to meet my fur-ever family

We meet at the local Petsmart parking lot to hand her to her fur-ever family.  She was very timid, but understandable.  Meeting your new human people for the first time in a strange parking lot was just a little overwhelming for her.  She really didn’t want to leave my side at first and not wanting to have a lot to do with them.  I handed the leash to her new Mom and asked her to walk her around while the new Dad went to move their car closer.  I then went to my car and got all the necessary paperwork they needed to complete.  By this time they had their car moved over near where she was walking and by the time I got back to them, she had jumped in their backseat and was looking at them, like okay I am ready to go home.
But wait, I forgot to get the new family picture for GABR……So we had to coax her back out of the car (which she was not very happy about) just to get a family picture.  But she was a queen and allowed us to do this but then right back in their car.
She had another long ride ahead of her to get home, but I am sure once she got there was spoiled to no ends.  I could definitely tell that her new pawrents were going to love her and spoil her rotten.  She just needs to get settled and realize she is in her fur-ever home.
She was absolutely a sweetheart and to be a part of bringing a basset to their fur-ever home was Priceless.  It is a memory that I will cherish forever.  It is one more step that is preparing me to move into the fostering world one day for GABR.  Still working on the human dad that this is something I must complete for my “Bucket List” though.
Droopy my 16th Transport for GABR for 2010

Again, I wish all the best for Droopy and her new family in the New Year.
Note from HDM:  I talked to Droopy's new family via email and they have said she is settling in very nicely.  I do believe they are going through formal training right know on how to keep everything picked up and out of her reach.  It is amazing how our fur-kids train us. :)

GABR Double Transport - Foster and Walker T

Well instead of spending my day fighting the crazy crowds on Black Friday, which I have never done.  I took the opportunity to transport not one but two bassets for GABR.  It started out to be just one, then at the last minute a 10 year old needed some help so she came along.

May I present to you Foster and Walker T.

Foster - 2/3 yr Male (Black, White)

I really didn't get much of a story this guy.  He was a cutie, short legged, short body and solid as a tank.  I was informed he was a talker in the car, but as usual this did not prove to be the case.  He rode in the front seat and I petted him for a while and he finally settled in for a nice long nap.  Didn't hear a sound out of him the whole way there, still sleeping when we pulled in the parking lot at the vets.  He reminds me a lot of our Amiee and they almost look like they could have been litter mates or something.

Walker T - 10 yr Female (Red/White)

Her story is sad, that her owner passed away and the son is disabled and unable to care for her.  It would be interesting to know how she got her name though.  She didn't look like a Walker, more like a Princess.  She settled in the backseat and slept all the way there as well.

Heck they both even had baths so you could hardly even smell them in the car.  They were both gems and hopefully soon the will get a great foster home.

GABR currently is looking for foster homes at this time.  They have so many bassets in rescue right know it is hard to believe.  Some of the foster homes have 4-5 bassets in them.  So if you are in the Illinois or Indiana area and want to foster, click on their link on the sidebar and you can find all the necessary forms to complete to become a Foster Home.

GABR Transport - Diesel (10/25/2010)

A week or so ago we were asked to do a transport for GABR, but at the last minute the little guy was diagnosed with Kennel Cough and had to spend some extra time at the Vet Hospital to get better.  Well we got the call last Thursday that Diesel was ready to go meet his Foster Mom.  So Monday afternoon HDM and HDD went to the Dwight Clinic to pick up Diesel, a 10 month old red/white petite basset boy.  Oh my gosh, this little guy was a delight to transport.  He was so social, loving, adored attention and loved loved to give kisses.  Here are a few of his pictures on his transport to his Foster Mom.  We so love it when HDD goes with us because it makes taking pictures so much easier in the car.

Diesel

Diesel was very amused at looking out the window and trying to stick his out and gets lots of new sniffs.

He would not sit still for nothing.  Back and forth, Back and forth in the backseat.

Lets see what is out this way

To the front floor board.  He was looking for the treat bag (which I picked up) so he found the bag of potato chips I had forgot about.  Such a good hound nose.

Serious ear scratching going on here.

Just being a silly boy

Okay a brief nap.  Ha Ha

Where did that guy driving go.  Not this way

Nor this way........

Out for walk while we waited for Diesel's Foster Mom to show up.

HDM and Diesel

This is one of my favorite pictures with his ears blowing in the wind

Give us a goofy smile Diesel

This one really cracks me up.  HDD took his picture and just has he snapped it Diesel blinked.

Diesel, you were an absolute joy to transport and I am sure it will not be long before you find your fur-ever home.  You will defiantely bring lots of joy to someone's house.

As always, you can watch for Diesel to be on the GABR website soon.  There are lots of great bassets looking for their fur-ever homes so won't you check out the adoption list today.
